I don't talk about my job often. It's not that I don't like it, because I do, it's just been on the back burner of life priorities for a while (like 2 years). I like to think that I am a good teacher. I enjoy seeing students' ah-ha moments. When they finally get what you have been talking about, drilling, promising... they are so proud. And really, if you can instill self appreciation and worth- then you have done your job.
Writing is one of the most challenging things to teach, especially if there are missing pieces in the curriculum that is chosen. When I teach writing, everyone in the room changes. They become authors... ooooo ahhhhh... yes. This is second grade people... :)
When a student can believe that they are an author, then they transform into a writer that cares about the ins and the outs. They care about the new and the old, the sloppy copy, the rewrite, the final draft. It is their work. It belongs to them and they become proud. Proud to share their ideas and what is important to them. They even become proud to learn new things and hopeful for what they can accomplish.
This is why we have a learner and a teacher within ourselves. I feel as though rejuvenating this blog fits me now. :) I'm the author.
