Rest, love.

I never wanted to be one of those parents who sings annoying, normal lullabies to their kids... oops, no offence. Although some of them are so endearing and enchanting, I won't knock all of them.  I wanted a special song just for them, that also means something to me. So, in my late nights in my rocking chair with Nathaniel, Norah Jones popped into my head. I would want Nathaniel to come away with the night.  I haven't fallen in love with any of her new stuff the way that I love this album.  Especially this song.  I would rotate in these long nights, between this and Jesus Loves Me, which also became very powerful to me in a very exhausting time in my life.  I've been blessed, Nola is a much better sleeper.

Come away with me in the night
Come away with me
And I will write you a song

Come away with me on a bus
Come away where they can't tempt us
With their lies

And I want to walk with you
On a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high
So won't you try to come?

Come away with me and we'll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I'll never stop loving you

And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me

I feel such amazing peace when my children sleep soundly. It brings me a big sofa kind of comfort, and my heart warms like hands around a steamy cup of coffee.  I can relax and rest. The Lord swarms with a great hug that speaks, sleep Courtney. Rest, love, your babies they are good, they are safe, they are dreaming.

When I would feed my son in our rocking chair, I would sing him Adele's "One and Only" and he loved it. It became part of our feeding ritual and anytime he would start to cry or fuss, I would starting singing this song and he'd break out into a smile. He's 15 months now and will rarely sit in the chair with me but occassionally, I'll sing this to him and he still loves it.

I love love Adele. Nathaniel is 21 months now, and I hope I will still be singing this to him when he gets married, and is old and gray!
